Stock market declines on Sunday, over Rs 7 billion in transactions

Kathmandu — The stock market declined on Sunday, the first trading day of the week. The market had risen on all five trading days last week. Compared to the previous day, the NEPSE index fell by 28.89 points, or 1.07 percent. With this decline, NEPSE dropped to 2,647 points. Although the market had risen after trading began—reaching 2,691 points at 12:44 PM—the selling pressure dominated afterward, and NEPSE continued to fall until the end of the session.

Despite the market decline, the transaction amount increased. While the previous day saw a turnover of Rs 6.66 billion, today’s turnover rose to Rs 7.02 billion. The prices of 39 companies increased, while 216 declined, and 2 remained unchanged. Most sectoral indices fell, except manufacturing and processing, which increased by 0.73%.

The banking sector declined by 1.08%, development banks by 1.09%, finance by 0.83%, hotels and tourism by 0.29%, hydropower by 1.31%, investment by 1.48%, and life insurance by 1.20%. Likewise, microfinance dropped by 1.30%, non-life insurance by 0.69%, others by 1.04%, and trading by 0.51%.

The prices of four companies increased by 10%. These were Sagar Distillery, Swastik Laghubitta, Jhapa Energy, and Srinagar Agritech. Joshi Hydropower saw the highest decline, with its price dropping by 7.29%. The prices of Himal Dolakha Hydropower fell by 5.59%, Swetganga Hydropower by 5.07%, and Himalayan Hydropower by 4.94%.

Companies with the highest trading volumes today included Himalayan Reinsurance, Joshi Hydropower, Green Ventures, NRN Infrastructure, and Nepal Life Insurance.
