Youth protest at Maitighar calls for all-party government ahead of elections

Kathmandu: A group of youth activists staged a protest at Maitighar on Monday, calling for the formation of an all-party government prior to holding elections. The demonstrators argued that elections should be conducted only after establishing a political framework that ensures good governance and long-term stability.

The protest was led by youth figures including Miraj Dhungana, with participation from Rabi Kiran Hamal, Nicholas Bhusal, and others. Protesters emphasized that structural political reforms are more urgent than immediate elections.

Holding placards with slogans such as “Gen-Z’s demand is not elections, but good governance,” participants expressed their belief that meaningful governance reforms must come before the electoral process.

Police intervened during the demonstration and detained the protesters from the site. However, authorities have yet to release details regarding the total number of individuals detained or the specific legal basis for the action.
