Kathmandu: The Election Commission has formed provincial offices in all seven provinces and appointed election officers to oversee the upcoming National Assembly elections scheduled for January 25.
Election Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said district judges have been designated as election officers in each province. The appointed officials are Bhimraj Prasai in Koshi Province, Shubhnath Puri in Madhesh Province, Geeta Shrestha in Bagmati Province, Himal Belwase in Gandaki Province, Prakash Raj Pandit in Lumbini Province, Deepak Dhakal in Karnali Province, and Bhuvan Singh Thapa in Sudurpashchim Province.
A total of 19 vacant seats in the National Assembly will be contested, with the election process formally beginning on March 4. According to the announced schedule, the voters’ list will be published on January 3 between 10:00 am and 11:00 am. Claims, objections, and scrutiny will follow, and the final voters’ list will be released on January 6 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
Candidate nominations are scheduled for January 7 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Objections to candidacies can be filed on January 8 between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm. Candidates may withdraw their nominations on January 11 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, after which the final list of candidates will be published from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm the same day.
Election symbols will be allocated to candidates on January 12 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Voting will take place at designated polling centers from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
