Three political parties submit closed lists for proportional representation

Kathmandu — Political parties have begun submitting their closed lists for the proportional representation category to the Election Commission for the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21.

According to the Commission, by Sunday afternoon three political parties, including the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP), had submitted their closed lists. Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai informed that the three parties submitted a total of 134 names.

He said that Sunday and Monday have been designated for submitting the closed lists. The Commission is carrying out the submission process in two phases. In the first phase, the Commission verifies whether the candidates recommended by the parties are listed in the voter roll and then issues an acknowledgment slip. After receiving this acknowledgment, the closed list is formally registered.

Bhattarai added that all necessary resources have been arranged to ensure smooth service delivery. He also stated that, due to the Commission’s busy schedule, the deadline cannot be extended, and that parties arriving up to 6 p.m. on Monday will be provided service.

He said,“According to the Election Commission’s pre-determined schedule for proportional representation, Poush 13 and 14 were set as the two days for submitting closed lists. As of now today, closed lists totaling 134 names from three political parties have already been verified here. They are currently in the stage of submitting the lists after receiving the acknowledgment. Since today and tomorrow are the designated days, we are prepared to provide services with the expectation that all parties will arrive by tomorrow.”

Spokesperson Bhattarai expressed confidence that political parties would submit their lists in accordance with legal provisions ensuring representation of various groups. He said the Commission has also conducted orientation programs for political parties for this purpose.

He further informed that the Commission has already published the election schedule, providing time for amendments from Poush 21 to 27. According to him, the names will be verified from Poush 15 to 20, and if any discrepancies with legal requirements are found, the parties will be notified on Poush 20.
