Kathmandu: The Election Commission has approved 40 organizations, including four international bodies, to observe the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.
Election Commission spokesperson and Joint Secretary Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said that permission has been granted to 36 national and four international organizations for election observation. On Wednesday alone, the commission approved nine additional national organizations.
The newly approved organizations include Garib Tatha Dalit Utthan Sewa Samiti Dolpa, Jansarokar Manch Nepal, Sustainable Rural Development Center, NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Maswasit Nepal, Nepal Public Administration Association, and Nepal Law Society. With these additions, the total number of observer organizations has reached 40.
The Election Commission stated that it will conduct orientation programs for national observer organizations and issue identity cards to the observers deployed by them.
Meanwhile, the submission of closed lists for the proportional representation (PR) system has been completed. The commission is currently scrutinizing the submitted candidate lists. If adjustments are needed to maintain cluster balance, the concerned political parties will be formally notified.
Political parties will be allowed to revise their PR lists until January 11. Candidates may withdraw their names on January 12, and parties will be informed of such withdrawals on January 13. Parties have until January 14 to nominate replacement candidates from the same group, after which the updated closed lists will be published.
The proportional representation candidate lists will be published on January 18. Claims and objections regarding candidates’ eligibility can be filed from January 19 to 24, with the commission reviewing and deciding on them between January 25 and 31.
The final closed list of candidates will be published on February 3. Voting for the House of Representatives election will take place on March 5 from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm at designated polling centers nationwide.
