Balen Shah to stay in Damak ahead of election campaign

Kathmandu: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Balen Shah, who resigned from Kathmandu Metropolitan City on Sunday to formally enter active politics, is scheduled to stay in Damak, Jhapa, on Monday, according to his secretariat.

After addressing supporters in Janakpur for the first time, Shah is expected to travel to Jhapa. A member of his secretariat said he is likely to arrive via Biratnagar Airport.

However, the route may change depending on crowd conditions. If a large gathering is expected late at night, Shah may instead land at Chandragadhi Airport. “Depending on the situation and crowd size, he will choose the safest option. Only if crowd management becomes difficult will he use Chandragadhi Airport,” the official said.

RSP Jhapa Secretary Shambhu Suskera said security agencies in the district were informed on Friday about Shah’s arrival. “We cannot disclose details of his accommodation publicly, but arrangements have been made for him to stay in Damak,” he said.

Following his resignation from Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Shah is preparing to contest the House of Representatives election from Jhapa-5, a constituency currently represented by former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. According to CPN-UML leaders, Oli has also arrived in Jhapa and is expected to stay at his private residence.
