KMC initiates basic health services at home for senior citizens

Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City has initiated a program to provide basic health services and medical examinations at the homes of senior citizens aged 70 years and above. Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol stated that health services for senior citizens will no longer be confined to hospitals, as the Metropolitan City has begun delivering basic healthcare directly to their homes.

She further noted that the Metropolitan City will also facilitate the transportation of critically ill patients to hospitals when necessary. In an official statement, Acting Mayor Dangol said, “Health services will no longer be limited to hospitals. Kathmandu Metropolitan City has launched home-based basic health services for guardians aged 70 years and above. From health surveys to health promotion facilitation, regular check-ups, essential medicines, consultations, and facilitation to hospitals in critical conditions—all services will be delivered at the doorstep.”

Since yesterday, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has deployed teams of health workers in all wards to conduct surveys on the health status of senior citizens within the metropolitan area. According to the Metropolitan City, these teams have been mobilized to collect necessary data and conduct health examinations required to effectively implement the program of providing home-based basic health services to citizens aged over 70.

To better understand the needs and voices of senior citizens, Acting Mayor Dangol visited Ward Nos. 31 and 27. The Metropolitan City stated that the program prioritizes senior citizens who are economically disadvantaged, those without family support, those whose family members are themselves similarly incapacitated, those unable to move due to chronic illnesses, and those who cannot regularly visit health institutions. With this priority in mind, treatment and health surveys have been initiated through home-based services.
