Delivering a message on this occasion, President Paudel called upon everyone concerned to contribute from their respective fields to end all forms of violence, discrimination and opression against women.

He highlighted the need to organise more effective and creative programmes to eliminate harmful practices that persist in society in the name of tradition, which have contributed to rising incidents of physical and psychological violence against adolescent girls and women.

“As women make up half of the population, empowering them will lead the entire family, society and the nation towards prosperity. Therefore, special attention must be given to this matter,” he added.

Stating the International Women’s Day is celebrated to honour the economic, political and social achievements of women working in various sectors around the world.

It also aims to expand women’s access to technology, strengthen women’s empowerment, eliminate gender inequality and violence, educate women and make them self-reliant, and ensure they receive the respect they deserve, he added.

“The principle of proportional inclusion adopted by the Constitution has proved to be a milestone in establishing meaningful representation and leadership of women in political, social, economic, cultural and educational sectors,” the President said.

To achieve the goals of gender equality and women’s empowerment, women must be ensured equal access to education, health services, employment, policy-making and decision-making processes, as well as politics and all other sectors of the state, he added.

He hoped that this day will inspire all of us to become more sensitive towards women’s rights, equality, empowerment and dignity, and provide renewed energy, enthusiasm and motivation to work in this direction.
