Iran signals 2026 World Cup boycott after US strikes

Tehran: Iran has indicated that it may not take part in the FIFA World Cup scheduled to be held this year in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, following what it described as an imposed war situation.

Iran’s Minister of Sports, Ahmad Donyamali, said that the country may not be able to participate in the upcoming World Cup football tournament.

Speaking to Iranian state television, Donyamali stated that due to the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel, it would be impossible for Iran to take part in the World Cup under the current circumstances.
