Kathmandu — The government has recommended Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal for appointment as a member of the National Assembly. A Cabinet meeting held on Sunday decided to recommend Aryal to President Ramchandra Paudel for nomination to the upper house.
Aryal was appointed Home Minister on Bhadra 30 by interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki. He had previously served as a legal advisor to Kathmandu Metropolitan City when Balen Shah was the mayor. A legal professional by background, Aryal had also been involved in the process of forming the current interim government.
Earlier, there had been discussions about nominating the current Finance Minister Rameshwar Khanal to the National Assembly. However, Prime Minister Karki decided to send Aryal to the upper house in recognition of his role in ensuring the success of the elections.
Aryal is considered one of the Prime Minister’s closest and most trusted associates within the Cabinet. At one point, when individuals close to Balen Shah reportedly campaigned for his removal, the Prime Minister defended Aryal.
On Bhadra 30, Aryal was appointed as Home Minister, Kulman Ghising as Minister for Energy, and Rameshwar Khanal as Minister for Finance.
