Iran war live: Tehran mourns Larijani, Soleimani; 2 killed in Israel

Tehran: Amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Iranian state media have confirmed that Ali Larijani, Secretary of Supreme National Security Council, has been killed in an Israeli attack.

According to The Guardian, Larijani was killed in a strike carried out in Tehran on Tuesday night, along with his son and several security personnel. Israel had earlier claimed responsibility for his death, which has now been officially acknowledged by Iran.

The incident is being regarded as a major loss for Iran, as Larijani was considered a highly influential figure within the country’s security and political structure. Analysts suggest that his death could further complicate the trajectory of the ongoing conflict.

Meanwhile, the war involving United States–Israel and Iran has entered its 18th day. Israel has issued new evacuation orders in the city of Tyre, prompting thousands of civilians to move to safer locations.

Continuous bombardments have resulted in significant loss of life and property in Lebanon, with more than one million people reportedly displaced. The United Nations has warned that such attacks may violate international humanitarian law and could constitute war crimes.

In addition, tensions are escalating in the Strait of Hormuz, leading to a surge in global oil and gas prices. Due to disruptions in the waterway, more than 20 percent of the world’s oil and natural gas exports from the Middle East have been affected, intensifying the global energy crisis.
