Newly elected HoR members to take oath today

Kathmandu: The oath of office and secrecy for the newly elected members of the House of Representatives is scheduled to take place today at 2:00 PM. According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, all necessary preparations for the ceremony have been completed.

Senior-most member Arjun Narsingh KC will administer the oath, as informed by Secretariat spokesperson Ekaram Giri. President Ram Chandra Paudel had administered the oath of office and secrecy to senior member KC on Wednesday. The oath-taking ceremony will be held at the newly constructed multipurpose hall located in Singha Durbar.

According to the Secretariat, 47 members are preparing to take the oath in languages other than Nepali, including 17 members who will take the oath in Maithili.

The oath-taking provision is in accordance with Article 99 and Clause (5) of Article 91 of the Constitution of Nepal, as well as Section 75 of the House of Representatives Member Election Act, 2017.

The Secretariat has requested members to be present at least two hours prior to the scheduled time, carrying their certificate of election issued by the Election Commission, a copy of their citizenship certificate, and two passport-sized photographs.

Members have also been encouraged to attend in formal attire or in clothing representing their cultural identity. Necessary arrangements such as seating, rostrum, Speaker’s chair, and designated areas for the Secretary General, secretaries, and Secretariat officials have been made at the venue.

In the House of Representatives election held on Falgun 21, the Rastriya Swatantra Party secured 182 seats, Nepali Congress 38, CPN-UML 25, Nepal Communist Party 17, Shram Sanskriti Party 7, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party 5 seats.
