Newly elected HoR members take oath this afternoon

Kathmandu: The newly elected members of the House of Representatives have taken their oath of office. On Thursday afternoon, at a ceremony held in the new Parliament building at Singha Durbar, they took the oath of office and secrecy.

Senior Member of Parliament Arjun Narasingh KC administered the oath to all 274 members of the House of Representatives. Among them, 47 members took the oath in 17 different mother tongues.

They arrived dressed in their respective traditional attire. Since the main hall of the House of Representatives has not yet been constructed, the oath-taking ceremony was organized in the multipurpose hall, according to the Secretariat of Parliament. Senior Member KC had taken the oath of office and secrecy before President Ramchandra Poudel on Wednesday.

According to Articles 99 and 91, Subsection 5 of the Constitution of Nepal, and Section 75 of the House of Representatives Members Election Act, 2017, provisions exist for taking the oath of office and secrecy.

In the House of Representatives election held on Falgun 21, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (Raswapa) won 182 seats, Nepali Congress 38, CPN (UML) 25, Nepal Communist Party 17, Labour Culture Party 7, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party 5 seats.
