BP highway obstructed due to rainfall; one killed in flood

Banepa — Continuous rainfall on Friday evening has completely obstructed the BP Highway, a key route connecting the eastern Terai and hilly districts. According to the District Police Office, Kavrepalanchok, the highway has become inoperable due to a significant rise in the water level of the Roshi River.

Police reported that several sections along the BP Highway are fully blocked, including Chaukidanda (Namobuddha Municipality–6), Ghumaune (Roshi Rural Municipality–7), Biruwadanda (Roshi Rural Municipality–9), and Kalidhunga (Roshi Rural Municipality–11). Authorities are currently coordinating with the Road Division Office, Bhaktapur, and construction contractors to clear the obstructions and resume traffic.

The police have urged the general public to check road conditions and exercise caution before traveling along the BP Highway. It may be recalled that in October last year, floods caused severe damage to a 28-kilometer stretch of the highway between Bhakundebeshi and Nepalthok.

Meanwhile, a flood in the Roshi River, triggered by the rainfall, swept away and killed Kunsang Tamang, a worker involved in the highway construction project. The information was confirmed by Roshi Rural Municipality Chairperson Dinesh Lama.
