Government prepares to issue labor approval on same day of application

Kathmandu — The government has decided to end the token-based system for labor approvals required for foreign employment and instead provide approval on the same day an application is submitted.

Previously, applicants had to obtain a token and wait for a scheduled date. The decision was made during a meeting held on Sunday in the presence of Minister for Labor, Employment, and Social Security, Deepak Kumar Sah.

The ministry also announced that audiovisual materials based on pre-departure orientation training curricula will be developed and made available digitally. The orientation training itself will be fully transitioned to an online system.

Additionally, the government plans to:

Ensure all workers are enrolled in the contribution-based Social Security Fund,
Fully implement minimum wage provisions,
Strengthen the “Shramadhan” program and improve the call center system,
Promote occupational health and safety through risk assessments in industries,
Encourage domestic employment through productivity and entrepreneurship.

The meeting also discussed expanding bilateral labor agreements with five more countries and implementing governance reform plans approved by the Cabinet on Chaitra 13.

Further plans include studying and setting minimum standards for foreign employment, ensuring worker safety, wages, and working conditions, providing skill development training, organizing skill fairs in all provinces in collaboration with the private sector, and taking effective measures to control fraud in foreign employment.
