RSP’s Aryal files nomination for HoR speaker

Kathmandu: Vice Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Dol Prasad Aryal (DP Aryal), has filed his nomination for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives. His proposer is party chairman and Member of the House of Representatives, Rabi Lamichhane.

The supporters of his candidacy include Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, Minister for Law Sobita Gautam, and Minister for Physical Infrastructure Sunil Lamsal. The election for the Speaker is scheduled to take place on Chaitra 22. For this purpose, the Federal Parliament Secretariat has set the time for nomination registration from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM today (Friday).

The list of candidates will be published at 2:30 PM. During the House of Representatives meeting to be held on the 22nd, a proposal will be presented to elect the Speaker, which will be moved by the proposer and supported by the seconder. Following a collective discussion on the nominations, the matter will be put forward for decision. A meeting of the RSP held on Thursday had decided to nominate Aryal for the Speaker position.

In the 275-member House of Representatives, the RSP holds 182 seats, placing it close to a two-thirds majority; therefore, Aryal is almost certain to be elected Speaker. At present, in the absence of a Speaker, the senior-most member of the House of Representatives, Arjun Narasingha KC, has been presiding over the meetings.
