Chitwan: A vaccination campaign against Japanese Encephalitis will begin in the district from Chaitra 25. A total of 18,811 people in Madi Municipality and 4,204 people in Bharatpur Metropolitan City–19 will be vaccinated.

Chief of the Public Health Office, Nirmal Ghimire, informed that the campaign will run until Chaitra 30. The vaccine will be administered to individuals above 30 years of age who missed earlier vaccinations, as well as children below 15 years who were not previously vaccinated.

According to the data, one person died and four were infected in 2024 due to Japanese Encephalitis. In 2025, 16 people were infected and five died, informed vector control officer Ram KC.

He stated that this is a vector-borne infectious disease transmitted through the bite of female Culex mosquitoes, which prefer outdoor environments and are most active during evening and morning hours. The mosquito transmits the disease after biting animals such as pigs and ducks. It is also known to breed in paddy fields.
