Kathmandu: Dol Prasad Aryal has been elected unopposed as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. He is the Vice President of the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). During the House of Representatives meeting held on Sunday at the multipurpose hall of the under-construction Federal Parliament Building in Singha Durbar, senior-most member Arjun Narsingh KC formally announced Aryal’s election as Speaker.
As per the agenda, Rabi Lamichhane, a Member of Parliament and President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, had tabled a proposal to elect Aryal as Speaker. The proposal was seconded by Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport as well as Urban Development Sunil Lamsal. Aryal had filed his nomination for the position of Speaker last Friday, and he was the sole candidate for the post.
He was elected as a Member of the House of Representatives from Kathmandu–9 in the election held on Falgun 21. Previously, he had also served as Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security. The next meeting of the House of Representatives has been adjourned until 1:00 PM tomorrow.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the National Assembly is scheduled to convene shortly. In the meeting, the Chairperson will nominate and make changes to members of subject committees. Additionally, members who will preside over the meeting in the absence of the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson will also be nominated.
According to the agenda, Prime Minister Balen Shah is scheduled to present the annual report of the Women’s Commission for the fiscal year 2081/82. This information was provided by the General Secretary of the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Padya Prasad Pandey.
