Mahatottari: Three people were killed and three others injured in a road accident that occurred on Tuesday at the border of Jaleshwar Municipality and Ekdara Rural Municipality in Mahottari district.
The incident took place when two motorcycles carrying students returning home after completing their Secondary Education Examination (SEE) collided with each other in Ward No. 5 of Ekdara Rural Municipality. The collision resulted in a fire, in which one female student and two male students lost their lives.
The identities of the deceased and the injured have not yet been established. According to the District Police Office, Mahottari, the bodies of the three deceased were burned beyond recognition, causing delays in identification.
The three injured individuals were initially treated at the Provincial Hospital in Jaleshwar and later referred to Janakpur for further treatment.
Chief District Officer Indradev Yadav, along with security personnel, visited the accident site and also went to the Provincial Hospital in Jaleshwar to inquire about the condition of the injured.
Local residents stated that this is the first time such an incident—where a motorcycle collision resulted in a fatal fire—has been heard of in the area. Police spokesperson Shailendra Kumar Bhatt confirmed that efforts are ongoing to identify both the deceased and the injured.
Police reported that both motorcycles were completely burned, which has made it difficult to ascertain the details of the incident. It is suspected that the victims may be residents of Jaleshwar and Ekdara Rural Municipality, specifically from the Gena Bathnaha area.
It has been reported that each of the two motorcycles was carrying three individuals who were returning home after completing their SEE examinations.
