46 Nepalis rescued from Cambodia, repatriated

Kathmandu— The Embassy of Nepal in Thailand has repatriated 46 Nepali nationals who had been residing illegally in Cambodia. According to the embassy, the individuals were rescued from Cambodia and sent back to Nepal on March 30 and April 13.

The embassy stated that these individuals had traveled to Cambodia through various means after being lured by false promises. They were subsequently forced to work in illegally operated online scam centers, casinos involved in online fraud, and other unlawful activities. Many of them were also found to be living in Cambodia without valid visas.

The embassy further noted that efforts are ongoing to repatriate other Nepali nationals stranded in Cambodia. “We have received information that Nepali citizens in Cambodia are being involved in illegal activities such as online fraud and are residing without visas or beyond their visa validity period,” the embassy said.

According to tourism statistics from Cambodia, the number of Nepali visitors has increased significantly in recent years. A total of 101 Nepalis visited Cambodia on tourist visas in 2021. This number rose to 1,977 in 2022, 2,940 in 2023, 6,404 in 2024, and 9,676 in 2025.
