Kathmandu: Opposition parties have obstructed the meeting of the House of Representatives, demanding the presence of Prime Minister Balendra Shah in Parliament.
The disruption began during Wednesday’s session after Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal permitted Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle to present, on behalf of Prime Minister Balendra Shah, the proposal to commence discussions on the government’s policies and programmes. Opposition lawmakers objected to the move and subsequently disrupted the proceedings.
Despite repeated requests from Speaker Aryal for the lawmakers to take their seats, members of the opposition continued to protest.Meanwhile, the Shram Sanskriti Party walked out of Parliament, stating that discussions on the government’s policies and programmes could not proceed in the absence of the Prime Minister.
During the session, Nepali Congress lawmaker Arjun Narsingh KC and Rastriya Prajatantra Party lawmaker Gyanendra Bahadur Shahi expressed their respective views. Following permission from the Speaker, an exchange of questions and responses took place among the lawmakers.
According to the House of Representatives Regulations, if the Prime Minister is unable to attend, a designated minister is authorized to respond on behalf of the government.
