Gandaki — President of the Nepali Congress, Gagan Kumar Thapa, has said that the party is preparing to update active memberships in order to hear and address the concerns of members working at the grassroots level.
Addressing the inauguration of a provincial-level gathering organized in Pokhara by the party’s Central Policy and Training Academy, Thapa said the membership update campaign aims to directly connect all party members with the central leadership.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would help move the party organization forward in line with the sentiments of ordinary members. Stressing that efforts are continuously being made to keep the party organized and united, Thapa urged every member and office-bearer entrusted with responsibilities at the provincial and local levels to sincerely fulfill their duties.
Describing the party as a bridge between the state and citizens, he emphasized that elected representatives from the party should work in coordination with the party and in accordance with public aspirations. He further stated that the government must function in line with the Constitution, legal procedures, and democratic norms, warning that the Congress party would continue to raise its voice if those principles are not followed.
Nepali Congress Vice-President Bishwo Prakash Sharma said there is no alternative to unity for social transformation. He added that the party would support the government in strengthening the federal democratic system while urging it to uphold democratic values and principles.
Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Surendra Raj Pandey claimed that no party member should feel ashamed of the achievements made under his leadership and called for emotional unity within the party.
Nepali Congress General Secretary Gururaj Ghimire highlighted the need to strengthen the party from the grassroots level. Party spokesperson Devaraj Chalise urged elected representatives to work in ways that win the trust of the people.
Gandaki Province President Shukraraj Sharma said the party would become stronger if it continues to uphold its founding values and ideals.
Speakers including Madhu Acharya, Kalpana Tiwari, and Bishnu Prasad Lamichhane also expressed their views during the event.
According to Shiromani Baral, member of the Nepali Congress Gandaki Province and Deputy Chief of the Publicity Department, around 380 participants are attending the gathering, including central office-bearers, provincial representatives, locally elected chiefs and deputy chiefs, district presidents from all 11 districts, general convention representatives from Kaski, and members of the Mahasamiti. The gathering will continue until Friday.
