Kathmandu: Harkaraj Rai (Harka Sampang), parliamentary party leader of the Labour Culture Party, has stated that no development project can be more important than the country’s territorial integrity.
In a statement, he said, “No issue can be greater than national sovereignty, nor should it be. In reality, India has been encroaching upon our borders for decades. For the Prime Minister himself to say that Nepal has also encroached upon India’s territory in many places is an anti-national statement. Such a baseless remark has undermined our national self-respect.”
Recalling his protest in Parliament on Wednesday, Sampang said that he had expressed dissent while demanding that the Prime Minister retract or correct the statement.
Referring to Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal’s attempt to clarify the Prime Minister’s remarks, he noted that the Labour Culture Party had maintained its opposition and protest throughout the proceedings.
He further stated, “A stain has been placed on the practice of democratic parliamentary governance. We strongly condemn this highly reprehensible conduct.”
Expressing concern over the declining dignity and prestige of Parliament, Sampang added, “The institution’s standards and decorum are deteriorating day by day. The primary reason for this situation has been the weakness of the Speaker.
