Two women die after being swept away by Godavari river

Dhangadhi: Two women lost their lives on Friday morning after being swept away by the Godavari River in Ward No. 4 of Godawari Municipality, Kailali District.

According to the Area Police Office Malakheti, the victims were identified as 40-year-old Kalpana Saud and 55-year-old Maheshwari Dhamala, both residents of the same ward. Their bodies were recovered near the Aryaghat area in Godawari, according to Superintendent of Police Hira Singh Mahara.

Police stated that the women had left their homes early in the morning to collect wild mushrooms. While attempting to cross the river, they were swept away by floodwaters. Authorities reported that heavy rainfall in the Chure region had caused the water level of the Godawari River to rise, resulting in flooding.
