Bheri Hospital to expand NICU beds

Banke – Bheri Hospital, located in Nepalgunj and serving as a major patient referral center for western Nepal, is set to expand its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) services to make treatment for newborns more effective and accessible.

According to the hospital’s Chief Medical Superintendent, Dr. Nabin Darnal, the hospital plans to increase its NICU capacity from the current eight beds to 20 beds. Necessary medical equipment has already been added to support the expansion.

He stated that due to the current shortage of NICU beds, newborns with serious health complications often have to be referred to other hospitals for treatment. Once the expansion is completed, the hospital will be able to provide care to more infants using its own resources. It will also be able to accommodate newborns referred from other hospitals, making specialized neonatal care more accessible.

At present, between 30 and 40 deliveries, including both normal and cesarean births, take place daily at Bheri Hospital. In this context, the expansion of neonatal care services is expected to further strengthen maternal and child healthcare services in the region.

Dr. Darnal said that the hospital has already arranged the necessary doctors and nursing staff and is prepared to operate the additional NICU beds.

According to the hospital administration, efforts are being carried out in a planned manner to fully restore services that had been suspended for various reasons in the past, while also introducing new services. The goal is to develop Bheri Hospital into a well-equipped regional healthcare institution capable of providing a broader range of medical services.
