Sarlahi, May 31 — A woman was killed and another seriously injured after being struck by an electric vehicle (EV) in Bagmati Municipality–9, Nirman Chowk, Sarlahi, on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 55-year-old local resident Jayakumari Devi. The accident occurred when an EV Hiace van bearing registration number Bagmati Province 03001 J 0776, which was being towed due to a mechanical breakdown, struck the two women.
According to reports, the EV was being pulled to a repair facility by an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number Province 2–02–001 H 1879 when it hit Jayakumari Devi and another local resident, 40-year-old Punam Devi Yadav, who were walking along the road.
Both victims sustained serious injuries and were being transported to Birgunj for treatment. However, upon examination at the Provincial Hospital in Kalaiya, Bara, Jayakumari Devi was pronounced dead, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gopikrishna Subedi of the Area Police Office, Barahathawa.
DSP Subedi further stated that Punam Devi Yadav is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kalaiya. The vehicle involved in the accident, the auto-rickshaw, and both drivers have been taken into police custody for further investigation.
