Kathmandu — The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has expressed serious concern over remarks made by Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Waglé while responding to questions raised by opposition lawmakers in Parliament, and has demanded a clear explanation from the government regarding his statements.
Speaking in the House of Representatives on Sunday, UML Chief Whip Padma Aryal drew attention to the minister’s comments, stating that they were inappropriate and warranted clarification. During discussions on the national budget, Finance Minister Waglé had suggested that he was aware of various controversies involving leaders and lawmakers from older political parties and hinted that such matters could also come to light.
In particular, while responding to questions concerning alleged manipulation of tax rates, the Finance Minister had remarked on Jestha 28, “Are we unaware of your scandals?” Referring to this statement, Aryal questioned whom the minister had intended to target with such remarks.
Addressing the House, Aryal said, “The Finance Minister made highly objectionable statements while responding to parliamentary questions. Whom was he referring to? To whom was the threat of opening files directed?”
She further emphasized the need for impartial investigations into various high-profile cases. “The files related to the Tea Estate case, Omni, Wide-Body, and other such matters should be opened, and the truth should be brought before the public,” she stated.
Aryal also argued that if investigations fail to substantiate the allegations made against individuals or groups, those making serious accusations should be prepared to face legal accountability. She urged the government to ensure that facts are established through proper investigation and that issues are addressed responsibly rather than becoming subjects of political confrontation.
