Rani, Biratnagar: As part of a large-scale anti-drug operation conducted by the Koshi Province Police, 22 individuals have been arrested from various districts across the province. Police recovered 18 grams and 150 milligrams of brown sugar, 502 tablets of prohibited pharmaceuticals, one motorcycle, one scooter, and one city safari vehicle from those apprehended.
According to Police Superintendent Yogendra Singh Thapa, spokesperson and information officer of the Koshi Province Police Office, the arrests were made during inspections and surveillance operations carried out by police teams deployed throughout the province with the objective of building a drug-free society.
In Jhapa District, the Ward Police Office Bhadrapur arrested Devendra Bik of Birtamod–6 with 1 gram and 420 milligrams of brown sugar. Bikash Bhujel of Damak–3 and Sarita Rajbanshi of Bhadrapur–7 were taken into custody with 6 grams and 90 milligrams of brown sugar.
Similarly, the Birtabazar Police Post arrested Ganesh Prasad Oli of Birtamod–3 with 300 milligrams of brown sugar. Charles Limbu and Umesh Limbu were also detained with 3 grams and 900 milligrams of cannabis.
The Dharampur Police Post arrested Birganj Angdambe of Shivasatakshi Municipality–2 with 100 tablets of Sporex and 100 tablets of Tramadol.
In Sunsari District, a joint team from the Koshi Province Police PIT unit and the Area Police Offices of Dharan, Itahari, and Chatara arrested Yogesh Neupane of Barahakshetra–1 with 290 Spasmo tablets and one bottle of Corex syrup.
Bikram Udas of Dharan–20 was arrested with 2 grams and 210 milligrams of brown sugar. Likewise, Mohan Pariyar, Suman Paswan, Dipesh Rana Magar, and Saksham KC were arrested in the Itahari area with 200 milligrams of brown sugar.
The District Police Office Sunsari arrested Prakash Rai of Dharan–17 with 64 kilograms of cannabis. Police also recovered 32 kilograms of cannabis found abandoned in the Dharan Railway area.
In Saptari District, Shiv Narayan Mahatto of Kanchanrup–9 was arrested with 12 Nitrazepam tablets, while Pradeep Yadav was apprehended with 1 gram and 60 milligrams of brown sugar.
Similarly, a joint operation by the Koshi Province Police PIT team and the Area Police Office Rani led to the arrest of Kamal Ram of Katahari–3 with 590 milligrams of brown sugar, Sandip Karki of Duhabi–8 with 460 milligrams, and Shankar Majhi of Pathari Shanishchare–8 with 720 milligrams.
The Karsiya Police Post also detained Gopal Sahani of Dhanpalthan–4 with 800 milligrams of brown sugar.Police spokesperson Superintendent Thapa stated that further investigation and legal proceedings under narcotics-related offenses have been initiated against all those arrested.
