Monsoon to spread across country within days

Kathmandu: The monsoon is expected to spread across the entire country within the next three to four days, with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) forecasting heavy rainfall in parts of Koshi Province.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division under the DHM, monsoon winds (Westerly) are currently influencing all areas of Koshi, Madhes and Bagmati provinces, parts of Gandaki Province, and the eastern region of Lumbini Province. Elsewhere, weather conditions are being shaped by a partial influence of westerly and local winds.

According to Meteorologist David Dhakal, the monsoon is likely to advance across the remaining parts of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as throughout Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces, within the next three to four days.

At present, the Tarai districts of Sudurpashchim Province are largely clear, while the rest of the country is experiencing partly cloudy conditions. Light rainfall has been reported at one or two locations in Koshi, Bagmati and Sudurpashchim provinces.

For Sunday afternoon, the Division has forecast generally cloudy skies across the country. Moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely at a few places in the hilly and mountainous regions, while similar weather is expected at some locations in the Tarai.

Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in both the hilly and Tarai areas of Koshi Province. Gusty winds are also expected at some locations in the Tarai of Koshi and across parts of Madhes Province. According to the DHM, generally cloudy conditions are expected to persist nationwide on Sunday night.

Moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is likely at many places in Koshi Province, at a few locations in the hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, and at a few places in the Himalayan region.

Similar weather is also forecast for a few hilly areas and isolated Himalayan locations in Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.Meanwhile, moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is expected at some places in the Tarai of Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces.

The Division has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall at several locations in the hilly and Tarai regions of Koshi Province, while one or two places in Madhes Province could also experience heavy rainfall.

Strong winds are also likely

in parts of the Tarai of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as in some areas of Madhes Province. The Meteorological Forecasting Division has urged the public, particularly those living in areas forecast to experience heavy rainfall and strong winds, to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions.
