Kathmandu : England advanced to the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup with a thrilling 3–2 victory over co-host Mexico. The Round of 16 match, played at Mexico’s iconic Azteca Stadium, saw Jude Bellingham score twice, while captain Harry Kane added the third goal for England.
Mexico’s goals came from Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez, but they were unable to prevent their team’s elimination. England led 2–1 at halftime, and both teams scored one goal each in the second half.
England were reduced to 10 players in the 54th minute after Jarell Quansah was shown a red card. Despite playing with a numerical disadvantage for the remainder of the match, England held on to secure the victory.
With the defeat, Mexico became the second host nation to be eliminated from the tournament, following Canada’s exit in the Round of 16. The match was delayed by one hour due to adverse weather conditions. England will now face Norway in the quarter-finals.
