Hetauda: Five people were injured after a passenger bus met with an accident in Makwanpur district on Tuesday night.According to the District Police Office, Makwanpur, the accident occurred at Ramantar in Manahari Rural Municipality–7 along the East–West Highway when a passenger bus (registration number Na 5 Kha 5319) travelling from Birgunj to Lamjung went out of control and overturned on the right side of the road after its steering tie rod broke.
The bus was carrying 16 people, including the driver. Following the accident, a team from the Area Police Office, Manahari, along with traffic police personnel, reached the scene and rescued the five injured passengers. They were initially taken to Manahari Hospital for treatment and were later referred to CMC Hospital in Chitwan for further medical care after receiving primary treatment.
The injured have been identified as the bus driver, 39-year-old Bhim Bahadur Bik of Sarlahi; 30-year-old Sanjay Tamang of Bharatpur Metropolitan City–4, Chitwan; 54-year-old Mohammad Azad of Parwanipur Rural Municipality–3, Parsa; 23-year-old Rajkumar Ram of Devtal Rural Municipality–1, Bara; and 25-year-old Sudhir Kumar from Motihari, India. Police said they sustained injuries to their heads, foreheads, arms, and legs.
According to Madhav Prasad Kafle, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Information Officer at the District Police Office, Makwanpur, the damaged bus was removed from the roadway and placed in a safe location with the assistance of local residents. Traffic along the East–West Highway remained uninterrupted, and the remaining passengers were sent to their destinations using alternative transportation.
