Pakistan achieves 5.6 bln USD improvement in balance of payments yoy in current fiscal year

Islamabad: Pakistani Ministry of Commerce said Tuesday that Pakistan achieved an improvement of 5.6 billion U.S. dollars year-on-year in the balance of payments in the ongoing fiscal year (starting from July 2023 to June 2024) till Dec. 20.The positive trade figures and upward trend showcase Pakistan’s resilience, Pakistani caretaker Minister for Commerce Gohar Ejaz was quoted as saying in a statement.

“We will continue to work towards enabling our exporters and to find new destinations for exports,” he added.In this fiscal year up till Dec. 20, Pakistan’s exports soared to 14 billion dollars, showcasing a remarkable year-on-year increase of 709 million dollars, translating to a substantial around 5.3 percent improvement, said the statement.

Import figures during the same period dropped to 24.3 billion dollars from 29.2 billion dollars in the same period last year, reflecting a notable year-on-year decrease of about 4.9 billion dollars, it added.Pakistan’s exports witnessed significant growth to key destinations, including Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Madagascar and China, according to the ministry.
