Kathmandu: Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Anita Devi, who was arrested from Maitighar, has started a hunger strike at the Police Club. Minister Devi was arrested on Monday morning while she was gathering at Maitighar Mandal to celebrate Dhoti Day.
“He started the hunger strike demanding that dhoti should be recognised as the national dress and the arrested leaders and cadres should be released immediately,” said BP Sah, secretary of The People’s Party, which is under police control.
The Janamat Party had staged a demonstration at Maitighar demanding that Dhoti Day should be celebrated on English New Year’s Day.Police had arrested 63 leaders and activists, including Janamat Party president CK Raut, central secretary Anita Devi and BP Sah, who were also ministers, for breaking the prohibitory order.They are now being kept at the police club premises at the exhibition.
