Pokhara plane crash : some bodies to be brought to Kathmandu

Mortal remains of some of those killed in the crash of the ATR-72 plane belonging to Yeti Airlines in Pokhara of Kaski Sunday are to be brought to Kathmandu. It is said mortal remains of the crew members, foreign citizens and those with their homes in Kathmandu are to be transported to the capital. Their autopsy is to take place here.

The postmortem examinations of the victims from Pokhara are to be conducted in Pokhara itself before handing the mortal remains to the families and relatives. According to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) General Manager Premnath Thakur, a three-member specialists’ team from the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital is visiting Pokhara to handle the postmortem procedures.

The Yeti Airlines plane that had left TIA for Pokhara on Sunday morning crashed in the Seti River Gorge just a few minutes ahead of landing and 72 people: 68 passengers and four crew members on board the ill-fated plane were killed. The Nepal Army, the Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and the TIA’s rescue and fire-fighting team continue rescue operations in the crash site.
