The election for the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives is being held today. The House of Representatives will hold a meeting today at 1 pm to elect the Deputy Speaker. Two candidates have been nominated for the position of Deputy Speaker.
On behalf of the ruling coalition, Indira Rana Magar of the National Independent Party and Muktakumari Yadav of the Nepali Congress from the opposition have filed nominations for the post of Deputy Speaker. The proponent of Indira Rana Magar is Sovita Gautam of the National Independent Party and the supporters are Krishna Gopal Shrestha of CPN-UML, Narayani Sharma of CPN-Maoist Center and Rajendra Lingden of RPP.
Similarly, Muktakumari Yadav’s proponent is Congress leader Badri Pandey and supporters are Metmani Chaudhary of United Samajwadi Party and Sarvendra Nath Shukla of LOSPA. Based on the number of MPs, Ranamar’s victory in the Deputy Speaker position is certain.
He has 77 MPs from UML, 32 from Maoist Center, 20 from National Independent Party, 14 from RPP, 12 from JSP, 6 from Janmat Party and 4 from Civil Liberation Party. Similarly, if three independent MPs also support, there will be 169 MPs in favor of Ranamar.
Only 88 members of Nepali Congress, 10 members of United Socialist Party and 4 members of LOSPA are in favor of Yadav. Congress, which has given a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, has contested for Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
