Premprasad Acharya of Elam, who set himself on fire in front of the Federal Parliament building, died during treatment. Dr. Kiran Nakarmi, who was involved in the treatment, informed the light that he died at 5 o’clock this morning while undergoing treatment at the Burn Hospital in Kirtipur.
37-year-old Acharya of Suryodaya Municipality of Ilam had set himself on fire by pouring petrol on his body yesterday. Doctor Kiran Nakarmi said that although the fire was put out with the help of local residents and the police, they were taken to the burn hospital for treatment, but could not be saved as most of the body was burnt. Before setting himself on fire, Acharya wrote a long status on social media saying that he was in a big financial crisis.
In the status, he had mentioned about his struggles and sufferings along with the reasons why he had to commit self-immolation. It is mentioned in the status written by him that he had to take the step of self-immolation after many attempts in life failed. He mentioned about the problems he faced while studying, working, doing business, going abroad for employment and running an industry.
Acharya said that he sold his ancestral house in Ilam and built a house in Budhanilkanth in Kathmandu, but due to the high number of loan transactions in the travel agency, Acharya said that he was in debt after loan. He mentioned that the government, middlemen and big business discourage those who try to do something like him.
It was mentioned that he tried to commit suicide earlier due to stress and problems. He had asked his wife to help him to pay the debt through status. Acharya has a wife and two daughters.
