Kathmandu, Aug 19: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli spent around two hours this morning while interacting with the National Women Volleyball Team. The discussions primarily focused on achievements made so far in women volleyball, need to add additional infrastructural development and ways for securing more achievements for Nepal in international competitions.

This is probably first time that we were provided a moment to sharing a breakfast time for a close interaction with the head of the government in the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar, the squad said.

The team comprised main coach Jagadish Prasad Bhatta, captain Aruna Shahi, Nepal Volleyball Association’s Chair Jitendra Bahadur Chand and player Saraswoti Chaudhary. The Prime Minister said he could not manage time to witness the final match of the recent CAVA Women’s Nations Volleyball Tournament due an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers.

He said he is well aware of aspirations, concerns and demand of Nepali women players and other athletes as well. The PM also reminded them of the government’s decision to honour the Nepali women volleyball team that clinched silver in the tournament with a cash prize of Rs 300 thousand each.

The team acknowledged the government for its decision to recognize the achievement in the tournament.
“The government does not have sufficient funds in the State coffer. But we do all the necessary things to promote volleyball,” he said, hoping that the team will further improve its performance in international competitions.

The Prime Minister expressed commitments to building a volleyball covered hall of an international standard. Recalling the moment he met with the Russian women volleyball team members earlier, the Prime Minister said the team praised the performance of the Nepali team, suggesting that it has immense possibilities ahead.
