Martyrs’ Day is being celebrated today in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the establishment and restoration of democracy and freedom in different eras.
Since the year 2012, under the coordination of the then Kathmandu Municipality, the Martyr’s Day has been celebrated on January 16 every year. The Metropolitan Corporation celebrates Martyrs’ Week by organizing a week-long program from January 10th to 16th.
In 1997, martyr Shukraraj Shastri was executed at Pachli in Teku, Kathmandu on January 10th, religious devotee Mathema was executed at Sifal on January 13th and Gangalal Shrestha and Dasharath Chand were executed at Shobhabhagavati on January 15th.
From January 10th to 16th, different programs have been announced to celebrate Martyrs’ Week.
Since the year 2012, under the coordination of the then Kathmandu municipality, every year on January 16th, the Martyr’s Day has been celebrated.
