Kathmandu,Sep 29: Former Central Vice Chairman of Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Karna Bahadur Karki, has passed away. Born in 2011 B.S. He was suffering from diabetes for a long time and kidney problems for two years. Karki passed away at his residence in Palpa, Tansen.
He was preparing for a kidney transplant after a successful hernia operation at the Lumbini Provincial Hospital in the last week of Saun. But it was delayed due to lack of finances. Karki became active in the anti-panchayat system movement and started journalism from Palpa after the referendum of 2036 .
Karki joined Jamarko, Jhilko and Deshantar weekly and did journalism. In the year 2045 B.S.,Karki started the publication of Dainik Lumbini. As he was known to be active in the anti-panchayat movement, the then district administration did not allow him to register the newspaper in Rupandehi, so he registered it from Parasi in Nawalparasi.
Kishore Shrestha, the former chairman of the Press Council and Chief-Editor of Jan Astha, was the general secretary of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists while Karki was the central vice president of the federation. He has a wife Bhagwati, daughters Niru, Banju and son Saroj. The younger son died a few years ago.
