Construction Industry Council urges PM Oli to facilitate in payment of dues

Kathmandu, Jan 8: The Nepal Construction Industry Council has urged the government to pay the due amount and create physical infrastructure-friendly environment for ending the contraction seen in the construction sector in the country. Council office-bearers, including Chairman Balibhadra Rana, expressed this during a meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at his official residence on Tuesday evening.

The Council delegation drew the attention of the Prime Minister regarding amendment to the Public Procurement Regulations and adjustment of price in the contract, taking into consideration the hike in the price of construction materials including cement and steel rods, among other topics.
On the occasion, PM Oli said that some of the due amount has been paid to the construction entrepreneurs and he has already instructed the bodies concerned to carry out works so as to ease the payment process of the remaining dues.

Prime Minister Oli urged the contractors not to compromise on the quality, saying that quality construction works could not be carried out in some places due to the process of awarding contracts to the lowest bid amount.

Making it clear that any action that does not meet the quality standards is not acceptable to the government, he said the potential risks have been taken into account while estimating the cost. PM Oli said the government has accorded high priority to development works and also recalled that the post-earthquake reconstruction had been successfully completed in the past.
