Kathmandu: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has stated that there is no reason for her party membership to be questioned or revoked. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, she asserted that it is not justifiable to strip her of her party membership.
“There is no reason to be excluded from party membership. The immature decision of the party, which aims to control the constitutional rights and freedoms granted by Nepal’s Constitution and laws, has deeply saddened me,” Bhandari said at the press conference. “Such decisions, made out of emotion and impulse, cannot hide the truth. The essence of our ideology (Jabaj) is to make wise and principled decisions.”
She further claimed that the decision made by the party was not legitimate. Bhandari emphasized that she has been a dedicated member of the party for 45 years, and thus, it would be entirely inappropriate to revoke her membership despite her unwavering loyalty to the party.
She stated that her sentiments were not just emotional but rooted in the sacrifices made by thousands of leaders and cadres, including herself, in building the party through hard work and dedication. She urged all UML members across the country to uphold and protect the party-building principles set forth by the Jabaj ideology with sincerity.
“I therefore call upon all party members to move forward with confidence, determination, and commitment to the party’s values and to actively contribute to building the party,” said Bhandari. She also expressed her belief that the UML (CPN-UML) will continue to be a decisive national force, thanks to the dedication of its leaders and cadres to the principles of ‘Jabaja’.
