Kathmandu: The Election Commission’s deadline for political parties to register for the House of Representatives election slated for March 5, 2026, expires today, marking the final opportunity for parties to confirm their eligibility for the national vote.
The EC opened election-specific registration on Mangsir 1 and set Mangsir 10 as the last date. By Tuesday evening, 80 parties—among them major players such as the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and the Nepali Communist Party—had completed the required procedures.
Although 135 parties are currently registered with the EC, only those submitting their documents within the deadline will be permitted to contest the upcoming polls. Officials expect the number to rise slightly as parties work to finish the process before the cutoff.
Once registration closes, the EC will conduct scrutiny and verification of documents from Mangsir 11 to 18. The final list of approved parties will be published on December 6.
