Kathmandu — The Nepali Congress Central Working Committee meeting is being held today. After several postponements, the meeting will convene at 2 PM at the party’s central office in Sanepa, according to the party’s Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel.
At today’s meeting, Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka is set to present a proposal regarding the schedule for the party’s 15th General Convention for a decision.
In line with the directives of Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, the schedule for the general convention is being prepared following discussions among Acting President Khadka, General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma, leaders Shekhar Koirala, Ramesh Lekhak, and others.
After consultations with President Deuba, a conclusion has been reached to propose holding the General Convention from Poush 27 to 30, and to immediately begin the necessary processes.
Acting President Khadka is continuing further consultations with the two General Secretaries and other leaders to finalize the schedule.
The Central Committee meeting, which began on Ashoj 28, has been unable to reach a conclusion due to disagreements over whether the party’s General Convention should be held before or after the election scheduled for Falgun 21.
On Ashoj 29, 54 percent of the party’s General Convention delegates submitted signatures demanding a Special General Convention. According to the party statute, a special general convention must be held within three months of receiving such signatures.
