Kathmandu: CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said those involved in planning and carrying out the arson at Singha Durbar will not be forgotten. Sharing a photo of the Singha Durbar complex engulfed in flames on social media on Monday, Pokharel condemned the incident as destructive and unacceptable. He said such acts cannot be justified under the pretext of a people’s movement.
Pokharel stated that the extensive damage caused in a single day could not, under any circumstances, represent a genuine public protest. He also dismissed attempts to associate the incident with Nepal’s youth by labeling it a Gen-Z movement, calling such claims a conspiracy aimed at unfairly blaming young people.
“Such large-scale destruction in one day cannot be a people’s movement. Under no condition and under no excuse can this be justified,” Pokharel wrote on Facebook. “Dragging Nepali youth into this in the name of Gen-Z is unacceptable.”
Emphasizing accountability, Pokharel warned that those responsible for the incident would be remembered. “We will not forget. We will not forget the planners and accomplices behind this destruction,” he said.
