Kathmandu: With 59 days remaining until the House of Representatives (HoR) elections, the Election Commission (EC) has appointed district judges as Chief Election Officers and standby Election Officers.
The Commission said 77 district judges have been designated as Chief Election Officers, while a total of 88 individuals have been appointed as Chief Election Officers and Election Officers in consultation with the Judicial Council. The appointments were made in accordance with Section 8 of the House of Representatives Members Act, 2074.
The election for HoR members is scheduled to take place on March 5. According to the EC, the appointed officials have been instructed to assume their duties in their respective constituencies from February 3.
The Commission has also directed the officials to set up their offices and begin election-related activities without delay. The House of Representatives comprises 275 members, with 165 elected under the first-past-the-post system and 110 through the proportional representation system.
