Kathmandu, 11 January: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has released a video message regarding the Special General Convention. While the Special General Convention campaign is ongoing, Koirala issued the message stating that he has always stood for the Nepali Congress to function in accordance with its statutes, rules, and policies. He mentioned that despite facing resentment from some colleagues, he has continued to fight consistently for the party.
“I want to state this clearly: I have no personal ambition. Opportunities to become a minister or general secretary came repeatedly, but I did not show interest in them. Likewise, the prospect of becoming party president or prime minister does not tempt me,” Koirala said in the video message. “This is the education I received from my family; it is my philosophy of life. Inspired by this philosophy, I stand for the overall unity of the Congress. On one hand, I had to fight against the working style of Sher Bahadur Deuba, and on the other, I have had to face the dissatisfaction of those young people who come before me full of energy and enthusiasm.”
He said that he is fully aware of what is stipulated in the party statute and noted that while the campaign for the Congress’s Special General Convention was underway, he presented his views in writing to the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee.
“While expressing this opinion, I was cautious to ensure that there would be no technical or emotional impact of division from any corner of the Congress. I know who has to bear sacrifice and humiliation when the Congress is divided. I will not move forward for party division, but for the unity of the Congress’s views and sentiments,” Koirala said. “Even if I am alone, I will not be shaken from the position once held by figures like B.P. Koirala and Kishunji. Can we not all Congress members come together, like them, and move ahead by holding a General Convention that sends a message of consensus, cooperation, and unity? Wouldn’t our well-wishers and the international community also want us to move forward united?”
