Special Court orders witness examination in ‘Patanjali Land Scam Case’

Kathmandu: The Special Court has ordered the examination of witnesses in a corruption case involving 93 defendants, including CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal.

The case concerns alleged irregularities in the acquisition of land by Patanjali Yogpeeth in Sanga, Kavrepalanchok. The order was issued by a bench of Special Court judges Narayan Prasad Poudel and Dilli Ratna Shrestha.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) filed the case on June 5, naming 93 individuals, including Nepal. Earlier, on June 25, the court had granted bail to Nepal upon the payment of Rs 3.5 million.

Following his appearance before the court, Nepal’s statement was recorded. The CIAA has sought compensation of Rs 185.85 million from him, alleging corruption related to land purchase approvals and exemptions granted beyond the legal limit to Patanjali Yogpeeth.

With the witness examination phase set to begin, the case has moved closer to a final verdict.
