‘Election Commission’s Call Center’ receives more than one thousand inquiries

Kathmandu – A large number of citizens have raised inquiries regarding the voter registration list in connection with the election. According to the Election Commission, a total of 1,677 inquiries were received by the “Call Center” that has been in operation since Magh 5, up to Magh 17.

Out of these, 906 inquiries were related to the voter registration list, 135 concerned the election code of conduct, 61 were related to voter education, and 575 fell under other categories, informed the Commission’s spokesperson, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.

Spokesperson Bhattarai stated that the Commission is moving forward with a plan to monitor individuals who disseminate false or misleading information and hateful expressions in violation of the election code of conduct, and to bring individuals and institutions involved in unlawful activities within the ambit of the law in coordination with regulatory bodies.

Accordingly, 120 content producers or disseminators involved in the production or transmission of harmful information have been referred to the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police for action under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063. Similarly, six cases have been forwarded to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority for action under the Telecommunications Authority Act, 2052.

Likewise, 15 cases have been sent to the Press Council, Nepal for action under the Press Council Act, 2048, and 34 cases have been referred to the Central Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee for action under the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, the Commission informed during a press conference.

In addition, discussions have also been held with the private sector in relation to the election. With the objective of providing voter education, the Voter Education Unit under the Commission’s Election Information Dissemination and Coordination Center has so far approved 158 materials and published them on the Commission’s official Facebook, X, TikTok, and YouTube platforms.
