‘Democracy Day’ should help achieve national goals of prosperity: President Paudel

Kathmandu — Ramchandra Paudel has expressed confidence that Democracy Day will contribute to achieving the national goals of sustainable peace, good governance, development, and prosperity.

Extending his  best wishes on the occasion of National Democracy Day 2082, the President paid tribute to all those who contributed to various movements for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, national interest, dignity, and democracy of Nepal.

President Paudel stated that making the House of Representatives election, scheduled for Falgun 21, successful is a shared responsibility of all, as it will help guide the nation toward constitutional governance, democracy, good governance desired by the people, and rapid development. He also appealed to everyone to contribute to this effort.

Democracy Day is observed every year on Falgun 7 to commemorate and honor the historic achievement of the 1951 revolution (B.S. 2007), which secured human rights and civil liberties through a courageous struggle against autocratic rule.

The President noted that this day is marked in Nepal’s history as a proud and unforgettable occasion, as the principle that sovereignty resides in the people was established through the people’s struggle and the sacrifices of martyrs.

He emphasized that the 1951 revolution laid an important foundation for the establishment of the Federal Democratic Republic and the promulgation of the present constitution drafted by the people themselves, achieved through long struggle and sacrifice. Democracy Day, he added, reinforces the enduring importance of citizens’ rights and keeps alive the immortal legacy of the martyrs.

President Paudel also urged all to work toward national development and prosperity through good governance, which remains the core objective of the Federal Democratic Republic. (RSS)
