Kathmandu — CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has accepted his defeat in the recent election, saying he respects the people’s mandate despite the disappointing result for himself and his party.
In a message shared on social media on Thursday, Oli acknowledged that neither he nor his party achieved the results they had expected.
“I could not secure the results I had hoped for in this election, and our party also fell short of its expectations,” he said. Oli was defeated by Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen, in the Jhapa-5 constituency.
Stating that democracy ultimately rests on the people’s decision, Oli said it was his and his party’s responsibility to respect that choice.
“In a democracy, the final decision belongs to the people. It is our duty to honor that decision, and I accept the people’s verdict with full respect,” he wrote.
Oli also thanked voters, party leaders, workers, volunteers, and supporters who continued to back the CPN-UML and vote for the party’s sun symbol even during challenging circumstances.
“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all voters, leaders, workers, volunteers, well-wishers, and supporters who stood by us and voted for the sun symbol. Your trust is our strength,” he said.
Despite the unfavorable results, Oli emphasized that his commitment to public service remains unchanged. “Although the election outcome was not in our favor, our dedication to serving the people has not weakened. We will remain among the people, continue working for them, and strengthen this relationship of trust,” he added.
